New Cross is a long way from civilisation. More so since the East London Line was closed. You can catch a train but they don't take Oyster, so apart from the cost you have to do something complicated with tickets. People tell me that mostly you just get on and don't pay for trains that don't take Oyster, but I can't be bothered. I choose the Docklands Light Railway to Deptford Bridge.Canary Wharf is not a good station to change at; the stations for the two lines are not connected and there is only the mearest hint how to find the DLR station.
I had originally decided to brave the journey to New Cross to see Kasms who are more ior less headlining at 11.30 (long after the last trains home). Five minutes after I'd bought a ticket Vulgarians announced that they were playing an accoustic set in the afternoon. They have been going through some personnel changes so I haven't seen them for a while. It means taking the day off work, but seems a bit of an adventure. And a few days ago Rubella were added to the bill at 8pm, just in case I had thought of going off between Vulgarians and Kasms. I have to admit it doen't seem entirely sane going to see a smallish accoustic set so far away, and probably I wouldn't have done if I wasn't already planning to be here later.
But my instincts prove right and I end up having a few cheapish student union beers with Colette and Hannah. Its a pleasant way to pass the afternoon. They head off home North of the river just in time for me to search out something to eat before Rubella's set.

Vulgarians usually play early; sometimes so early that I have missed the beginning of their set. Tonightthey are playing at 10pm, so I don't have to rush to Hoxton. In fact everything is normally late so I catch the end of the first of 4 bands when I arrive just before 9. The lights are a bit odd. On Hannah's side there is hardly any light, and Jim is entirely red, but in the middle the light is quite bright.
