The Nest used to be Barden's Boudoir - so called because it is the basement of a building in Dalston which used to be a department store called 'Bardens' . Barden's Boudoir was a pleasant little venue with lights and a good stage; if it hadn't been so difficult to get to (and from), it would have been a top venue.

The Nest is, of course, no more convienient (unless you live in Dalston or Stoke Newington) but now has no lights and the stage is a (deep) cubby hole in a corner. Overall it's not a venue I would expect to visiting often. I can't imagine that many bands will play there more than once.

Tonight\s show seems to be full of students; the event also seems to be run by students. With 5 bands scheduled to play and the first band due on at 9pm, it is obviously not aimed at people with jobs.  Whilst some of the people pushing into the queue in front of me claim to be unemployed A & R people, the sheer laxidicity of the evening says students to me. I suspect they are connected to Goldsmiths by the newly opened and lengthened Eat London Line.

When I arrive they are only running 45 minutes late, I leave at 12.40 with only one band left to play. The early bands are hardly interesting which might explain why the A&R crowd are no longer in jobs.

Run Toto Run are a two-piece tonight but still stand out from the crowd as they did when I saw them (as a 3-piece) on a couple of previous ocassions. They are electro done well, critically they write songs with tunes. They even manage to be interesting to photograph, something that electro bands often struggle without  achieving.
