Clockwork 4 @ The Old Blue Last
I was intending to see the band who change their name more often than they play, at the Old Blue Last, then head off to the Good Ship where the marvellous i hearts are headlining. Unfortunately times change , I don’t like to leave the Old Blue Last without finding out what they are called tonight, so leave it too late to get to Kilburn. I thought I was going to see Clockwork 4 which I think is a good name. By the time they take to the stage they have changed their nane again to something I can’t remember. However good a band may be, it is difficult to regard them as serious if they keep changing their name; even more so when they change their name to something which sounds like a joke. As I have missed the I hearts by now, I think I may as well have a drink and see the headlining band. There seem to be hundreds of them and they take a ridiculous time to set up. I’m not impressed, even the wonderfully sullen bass player is not enough to get me to take my camera out and I leave after a song and a half.
Clockwork Boy @ Notting Hill Arts Club
I know 3 of the 4 band members from other bands where they play or played. Veronica plays guitar in her own band Vanilla Ride, but here she plays bass. The two girls in the band seem to be dressed as schoolgirls with long white socks, white blouses and shortish skirts. I'm not sure how to react to this; it seems slightly exploitative, but I think it may represent some sort of post-feminist irony. Both the girls are attractive and would catch the eye if dressed in jeans and t-shirts. In fact the whole band are quite pretty and have catchy tunes, so without any irony I recommend catching their show.
