Soho Dolls @ Barfly 9th Nov
Soho Dolls sold out the Barfly ages ago but fortunately Neil had got some tickets... Having been sleeping all day it was difficult to wake up but we made it anyway to teh Barfly where the first band was starting their set. We had a glance and decided to go downstairs till the soho dolls would start, and as they started the fans gathered all in that small room and you could see teh anticpation on their faces... Suddenly a pretty young girl entered the stage and sat at teh keyboards so I thought this must be the pretty keyboardist form teh photo, with a different hair style. Missed, aparently the keyboard player had left and she was the lead singer. They played a few very recogniseable tunes with electro pop kind of sounds, I never heard the drummer at all, I swear it was mostly drum machines. But I think every band should have a decoartive drummer . The vocals were interesting, soft gentle and girly, making me wondered how come such a soft voice could be heard without any feedback as teh microphones need probably turning up.
It made me think that it is possible to be a girl and be heard within an electro pop band(we are not tlaking heavy metal otherwise her voice would be drowned I suppose)
They were very good and performed well, I missed the stripping off as I was at the back of the room, this is why they are called the soho dolls?
I know a good strip club there, the Sunset club, knew someone who was a DJ there (no names on here)
Voltane came to see us before we got home and told us how exciting the Opth gig had been, his hair was all messed up and for the first time in his life he had done surfing(I bet he was just saying that, he must have done it before!) and he seemed very happy.
Soho Dolls - the Old Blue Last 14th Oct
In the middle of a nationwide tour, Soho Dolls play a FREE gig in east london. I guess it would have been a sell out if any money had changed hands. Its hot and sticky in the small upstairs room (unusually for a London venue, they have lights). The band look a little cramped on the small stage, but the show is excellent.
