Victoria And Jacob @ the Wilmington Arms

On my only previous visit to the Wilmington Arms I came in the car. Tonight I investigate routes to deepest Clarkenwell by public transport. It proves not too difficult, just 10 minutes walk from Chancery Lane. There may be other tubes slightly closer but I'm on the Central Line.
After running into Victoria and Jacob on Monday at the Dublin Castle, my plan to visit tonight's gig turned from probable to definite. In some ways they remind me of Reverse E but mainly because there are just two of them with lots of leads, which all looks rather complicated. The don't seem to be so bedevilled by sound problems as Reverse E, so maybe they aren't quite as complicated. They are distinctive and enjoyable, they are also pleasant to talk to afterwards.
The soundwoman here is surely the best dressed soundperson in London. That probably isn't saying much as I don't think there is any real competion. I think she is the only soundperson I have ever seen who actually looks fashionable. She seems to be successful with the sound as well.

Daddy And The Good Girls @ The Dublin Castle

In the depths of the Christmas holidays I thought there must be something on before mid-january and browsed theough the Dublin Castle event listing. There I found Daddy and the Good Girls. The Dublin Castle description made them sound like my kind of band. I checked their myspace and found the 'about us' particularly enticing. I won't repeat it here but it's worth reading. My first visit to the Dublin Castle of 2009 was a success. The lights were strikingly good and the soundman deserves some praise here (as I write this I realise I should have thanked him at the time). I'm a bit confused as to what has happened to the bass player; sometimes ear-plugs can be too effective. Tonight Daddy and the Good Girls is Sarah on guitar and vocals and Ross on drums, with a guest trumpet player on a couple of songs. They are quite powerful and a good live act.
Afterwards Victoria and Jacob are playing. I came across the at the Pink Festival in Cambridge. It was extraordinarily hot that day and I think Victoria 'thanked' me for photographing her all sweaty. They have quite a lot of bits and pieces but don't jump around. I practice taking pictures of a band who don't roll on the floor or jump in the air (plenty of that to come tomorrow). I'm pleased with the results and enjoy the performance. Overall a very good evening.
