Little Fish @ Oxford Town Hall
Little Fish are supporting Supergrass. JuJu has a cold. There is a sort of nervousness about the whole affair (Nez never seems nervous, but everyone else does, including me). In the circumstances it is great to be here, but there is a slight feeling that things could be more perfect. I regard it as a practice for tomorrow. Supergrass don't grip my attention and I rush off home early to check the pics (which are pretty good).
Little Fish @ the Dry Bar
The Dry Bar is a city bar near Barbican. Unlike many of the bars that take to putting on gigs in the evening they have a pa , a bit of a stage and some lights. On the negative side the drinks are a bit pricey. Its quite a cosy place though and Little Fish have a good turn out. The Fish are relaxed and do a good show.
Little Fish @ Havana Bar, Portsmouth
Two whole weeks without a little fish gig. But they're back. My trip to portsmouth almost ends in farce as I arrive in a street so dead it looks like a prospective crime scene. Checking my map against the navigator which has brought me here I find that I had asked to be taken to Kent street, but the Havana Bar is on Kent road. They are 2.5 km apart and the mistake is easily rectified, but if I hadn't printed off my little map of the area......
The venue is distinctly dark. The crowd are lively, it seems a squid squad is developing on the south coast with several people who had seen the band in Southampton last month travelling down the coast.
As always there are a number of new squids who are blown away by little fish.
Little Fish @ the Jericho
Tim Bearder plays the Policeman tonight. Little Fish are slightly out of sorts, but the show must go on and the fishes get a great reception at this sold out evening. It's the first time I've found a queue for the doors to open at the Jericho.
Little Fish @ the Duke of Camden
A last minute gig from Little Fish, who are joined by Reverse E. Unfortunately there are some difficulties with some sound related thing for Reverse E, but it is good to see them again.
Little Fish are relaxed and everyone enjoys a strong set (including them).
Little Fish @ the Paradise
A exciting evening in West London. The Paradise in Kensal Green has been done up this year and looks like a nice venue with some lights. Its a tiny bit off the beaten track, being 10 minutes walk from Ladbroke Grove, although it is well served by buses. This is a bit of a showcase gig, with quite a few industry people present. It's a bit far from Oxford and Camden for many of Little Fish's regular fans to make the trip (although there are honorable exceptions); the reception from these Little Fish newbies is splendid.
Little Fish @ the Cellar
Tim Bearder from Radio Oxford's birthday bash. The cellar used to be called the Corn Dolly, I saw the bank of Dresden there in 1979; whilst my memories of the event are not vivid I think the venue is still similar.
Little Fish @ the Bull & Gate
Awful lighting - to do the lighting this badly must take some special training.
Little Fish @ the PowerCut (Jericho Tavern)
Rather a strange concept; bands have to play as if in a powercut except that they can use electric guitars without pedals and microphones, but can't use drum sticks !
Little Fish @ Kolebka
An evening out in Southampton for Little Fish (and me). Five bands mean a fairly short set with a bit of a rush to set up and dismantle. Nez has a hard time as the drums move all over the stage; JuJu just bounces around (whilst playing guitar and singing). From this picture its difficult to see how she managed to avoid the ceiling.
I wouldn't be so hackneyed as to give the picture a title such as flying fish, I'll leave you to make up your own.
