It's quite unusual for me to go to a gig where I'm not going to see someone specific, indeed normally I only go to see bands I have seen before. Tonight I take the opportunity of a free evening to check out Pushing Pussy Record's latest event, and to see what the Vibe Bar is about. All 3 band look interesting. I have actually seen the middle band, Cuckoos Nest before, at the cellar in Oxford. The first band are the Vulgarians, they have a nice mix of style/cool looks and interesting sounds. It was only after the gig that I discovered that this was their debut live appearance, it wasn't obvious from their assured performance. I'm not really sure why I like them but they definitely have some sort of edge.
Cuckoos Nest are a two piece, guitar and drums; somehow they remind me of Black Sabbath, which is not a bad thing.
The headline band are called Violet Violet. My judgement is impaired by several pints of Guinness by they play. Overall a good gig and no entry charge makes it superb value. There are some lights although the main light is a bit yellow. Quite a nice ambience at the Vibe Bar although maybe less seats and tables would make it more rocky.
