The View from my dinner table

Whilst wandering I noticed a restaurant which offered venetian salt cod. It was built on a platform over the water and looked rather a pleasant location to dine. In venice tourist menus are fairly scarce so it's normally 'a la carte'. The big difference in terms of price in all Italian restaurants that I've been to (including in London) is that vegetables are extra. Whilst at a quick glance the price may look reasonable, you have to add in a cover charge, plus water, wine, vegetables, coffee..... it soon mounts up.
What I have realised is that there are no cheap meals in venice; on the other hand the difference in price between a touristy pizzeria around san marco and a proper restaurant on a platform over the water (15 minutes walk from San Marco) is very little.
Tonight's meal is very good and only costs €30 including house wine and coffee. Whilst I'm eating the sky becomes very dark and a huge storm threatens. The staff make preparations for a downpour. But it never arrives and by I pay the bill it has cleared up. It is hotter than last night though. It's not really comfortable in the linen jacket I wear to avoid taking a bag, as it holds camera, wallet, guidebook, passport....
I thought I had taken it easy with plenty of riding on boats, sitting in cafes or on steps, and spells relaxing in my room. Yet still my calves ache from the walking. Maybe I will be fit when I get back from Venice.

Was that when you were trenched? It looks all lovely and blue skiyed to me! Well, nearly, except the big huge cloud above... Superb photo.
