Lilies On Mars + The Dogbones @ The Purple Turtle
It's a big bill and the bands I've come to see are on at the beginning of the evening, so I arrive fairly early at ten to eight. There's no one taking money so I wander in and watch the Lilies soundcheck. Someone comes round and stamps everyone who already insides's hand. That's a good start to the evening. Lilies On Mars soon take to the stage. I didn't realise they had a drummer and tonight they don't. I wasn't listening properly when they said why but the keyboard player is ill in Italy. Lisa and Marina manage quite well on their own. Lisa has largely recovered from being laid low over new year. There are an astonishing number of people I know to talk to, and some more who seem familiar.
Dogbones are on next. They are not happy with the sound, but battle on. I'm more or less standing in front of a speaker so can't judge the sound. They look impressive and the beat from their two drummers fills the venue.
The third band , This is not a dead transmission feature Jaemie who used to be in Ophelia Torah. They also have sound problems, particularly with a disappearing bass, but put on a lively show, so I take a few snaps.
Lots of people to talk to afterwards.

I seem to remember there were two other bands on that bill, how come you havent even mentioned them in the heading? the full line up of the show was David Ryder Prangley and The Witches, This Is Not A Dead Transmission, The Dogbones & Lilies on Mars, not just the latter two bands.
Yeah- I thought TINADT were mind-numbingly brilliant!
i thought the lady on this photo looked familliar... It took me at least 10 seconds to realize it was Marina!
Huhuuuuuu the more you go, the more interest you gather from people! They want to be on your site and mentionned!!!
The thing is...DO you carry on as you are or do you try to please people and name everyone everytime anyone's playing as well as take a picture of them all so they don't feel left out or jealous? The best solution is "not to go to gigs" like I do. Then, no jealous for sure!!!
I only include the bands I went to see in the title, normally that would only be one band, but in this case I knew both Lilies and Dogbones. Normally the categories and references includes everyone that I photographed, but I don't normally photograph more than two bands. Not clear why it would matter what I write in the title. The bands still played whether I mention them or not. If I mention the band you can find it with search and indeed Google will find it. I enjoyed the evening and am glad anon did too.
As a matter of interest can anyone think of a successful band with six words in their name ?
Surely most of TINADT is connectives anyway? ;) Their singer's in Widows and the bassist's in Femur, both of which have one word... maybe they just feel wordy? Either way, was a good night, and all the bands were good. Sort of wouldnt mind a photo or 2 of the TINADT's bassist with his swoopy hair, tho. Did he smash his bass at the end? I just saw him slam it down then pick it up with 'oh shit' written all over his face- bless 'im!
Where are the LoM and Dogbones pics, dammit!? I WANT.
^ As far as I know, Aidan did smash his bass by mistake. At least that's what I overheard when I was stood near where he and LOM were chatting outside.
The bass player is NOT in fermur no no no....
i mean Femur. ugh.
