If you are keeping up with my blog you will know of the strange co-incidence which led me to Shuga. If not just read back through my little mots and you will have the facts at your fingertips. Shuga are playing for Chris Hawkins of Radio6 music in a pub at the top of Broadway Market. I've never heard of it, but consulting the map shows it to be just around the corner from Hackney Empowering Church. One of the troubles with new venues is that you don't know what sort of times they keep. Fortunately I arrived at 8.30 to find the first band had just started. Quite a pleasant pub with band upstairs and some lights. A bizarrely positioned video light (something to do with BBC6 music I think) was a bit annoying and I was shooting into a mirror so had to watch out for my own reflection (this is one reason why gig photographers wear black).

Shuga were on around 9.15 and played a good set. I think they are a little like the Kills, but give them a listen and make your own mind up. I will see them again.
