Subdivine - ULU 18th August
The gig in Ulu in Russel Square was welcomed, it had been so long we had not been to a gig!
We arrived aroudn 8pm and didn't quite know where to enter so we went where the people were going to, and a man there stopped me and asked to see my student card(which is expired since ages) and then let us pass. He ramdomly picked us, not sure why, many other people were passing. Anyway we went upstairs and eventually found the stage, amazing big stage in a big room.
A few people were about, the bands, and managers, and bar staff. By that point we thought "damn we have not paid!" ah well it was too right, coming and hiring the Wildblanket team for videoing does require some kind of being on a guestlist, it was fair eough. I don't usually sit there and video bands...IT s boring! And I get to see nothing of the show!
The gig was very very good, the singer had a very strong voice that evening and I was happy, relieved and content to hear the band doing their dream like songs(particularly the song with the soft drums...it s so beautiful)
Paolo offered us a few beers afterwards which was very kind again , and their manager many hugs and thanking for videoing for them.
And for the pictures, of course.
The band after seemed to bring a few more people in, butby the third band we decided, after a chat with Subdivine, to go home.
NExt we must make sure we know them all personnally including their forenames.

Subdivine - Camden Barfly 13th August
This gig was the last one of 3 successive gigs we had gone to since the friday... I was pretty knackered by I got there and had this kind of "seen it all cant be asked" mind frame...Except I was looking forward to see Subdivine once again to make sure they were as good as I remembered them.
They played in the middle and the Barfly on a sunday night is usually quiet. After some discussion with Simona who was insisting to pay us back the entrance fee as we paid to enter the venue and us insisting because it feels good to support bands, (Simona works there) we eventually got upstairs and saw a good band ( I think they were good or am I mistaking) anyway I dont remember their names so it doesn't matter.
Subdivine played and their set was very energetic, the lighting was good, and the songs superb, even though I got worried at some point about the singer who seemed to struggle with his voice... Ah the eternal nightmare of the vocalists...
I was all perked up after seeing them and got a free Tshirt from Paolo (2) to thank us for doing all those photos. A band who is very grateful to Wildblanket. It makes us very eager to see them again!
Marina, their manager, insisted we should come to their ULU gig and video the set for them.
To be continued...

Subdivine @ the Spread Eagle
Its a steamy evening at the Spread Eagle. Small stage and a good crowd. Subdivine played a good set.
Subdivine @ The 333 Bar
A last minute decision to go and see Subdivine play at the Mother 333 bar in Hoxton where Wildblanket previously saw pop band USER . Greendrummers was threatened by anonimous Subdivine's members of their presence at the next Green Drummers gig, May 19th 2006, at the Klinker. Green Drummers therefore decided to attack first and check them out so, as well as hear them play, they would see what they look like and would save embarassment if one turns up and says "hi" and the subject to reply "who are you? Did we meet before? "
To go back to the show, we arrived early at the venue so 2 very charming door people marked us with a ball point pen and sent us out so we could have something to eat, around the corner in this "japanese canteen" restaurant. The restaurant was average but the portions were generous and it was quite nice as a whole, particularly the grilled mackerel and the miso soup.
Half an hour later we went back to Mother 333 and just arrived as Subdivine were starting up. A 4 piece band, with the lead singersquatting on stage whilsttwicking his guitar.
They started the show a few minutes later, time to have a Kronenbourg pint from the bar(no Guiness or dark beer in there) and time for Neil to set me up the camera as I still cannot do that alone.
He offered a Fuji with a 1.4 lense, but the lighting in the venue being so crappy and red, the test photos were that horrible that I had to beg him to put the flash on. We know how much we dislike flashy photos, they are just crap. Nothing better than ambiant light(when it exists and isn't red) for beautiful photographs of bands.
The band were doing a fantastic show, very raw and energetic as well as catchy tunes which aren't heavy metal nor poop; I suppose they could be classified as "indie" . The guitarist switched beautifully between his guitar and the keys, and after I had teh camera flashing at him in the eyes and possibley blinding him for a minute, he stared my way and offered me a round eyed face(famous photo to be kept in archives) which looked so comical as well as scary.
They finished with their famous song (am I going to get it right?) Cyanide, which left me with aexcited after taste of energy and long lasting impression.
Actually I am not sure it was Cyanide. Was it?
Well done Subdivine, Green Drummers can now do their own gig in peace, undisturbed by strangers coming or not to this vile and fantastic place which is the Klinker. Whether you come or not, we enjoyed your show greatly and will hopefully see you around.
O-F, as Green Drummers.
Wildblankethad a quick mealat The Japanese Canteen, 37 Hoxton Square. Where the service was very nice and the place was very clean. Good value if you need a quick bite in Hoxton.
